Three Reasons Avocado's Are Awesome
One avocado can pack about 4 grams of protein, making it one of the few fruits with a high protein content. They contain 18 very important amino acids our bodies need, and fortunately our body can absorb and use all of them (not so with some meat sources).
When you hear potassium you might think banana's. But avocado's contain more potassium, over 900 milligrams approximately. Potassium is important for our heart, muscles, nerves and kidneys.
Approximately 6 grams of fibre are in one avocado, both insoluble and soluble. The benefit is that it helps slow the breakdown of carbohydrates in your body, helping you feel fuller longer and giving you time to absorb all that goodness.
We love guacamole around our house whether it's with tacos, nachos or quesadillas, it kind of goes with everything. And in the summer it's a daily meal or snack feature. But as winter has truly come to stay for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, I sometimes need the pick me up that summer isn't too far off. So I make my guacamole! This recipe will make 2-4 servings. Try and use as much organic ingredients as you can.
- 2 avocado's (ripe)
- 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
- 2 tbsp diced red onion
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- dash of black pepper (you could even use a black pepper essential oil)
- 1 tbsp canned jalapeno's
- hot sauces (to taste)
- organic/gmo free baked tortilla chips (I like these)
Mash it all up and serve with organic/gmo free corn chips. Serve with chips and enjoy immediately!
